I was recently asked for information regarding Saint Germain. While I did remember the name, I did not recall any specific information. I promised to get some information to the individual and while I was reviewing my notes, I decided that this would be a good topic for the newsletter.
The Saint Germain that is popular today is usually grouped with "the Ascended Masters." Internet information on Saint Germain (and the Ascended Masters) is about a religious system. I’ll talk more about that in a moment, but first, I wanted to know more about Saint Germain in history.
The Encyclopedæa Brittanica lists four Saints Germain (Germain is the anglicized form of Germanus). None of the four stood out as likely candidates until I ran across one in particular who seems to be associated with the Bible of Moutier Grandval. The Bible of Moutier Grandval is a hand-scribed Bible found in 999 that was supposedly in the care of Saint Germain et Randoald (France, ? - ca 667). The information on this Saint Germain wove through the Loraines and Morovingians of pre- France monarchies.
The reason this caught my eye was because of the history of the Loraine and Morovingian dynasties and their claim to be blood descendants of Jesus (see chapter 13 of my book The Millennium Agenda for more information on this topic.) There is a lot of heretic doctrine surrounding these dynasties.
But, I couldn’t quite make the link. I suspected that the Bible of Moutier Grandval might contain some heretical doctrines, however, the only information that I could on it was in French—a language that I have yet to master.
So, I continued looking.
The Catholic church has a lot of information on the Internet, and I figured that since the Catholic church would have canonized any "legitimate" saint, that it would be a good place to look. On the Catholic encyclopedia site, I found about eight saints with names ranging from Germain to Germanus, and including one Germaine – a female saint.
Then I ran across a Germanus of Capua, described as the friend of Benedict (credited founder of the Benedictine order). It is said that Benedict had a vision of Germanus' soul being carried into heaven upon his death. Then it occurred to me that this must be the most likely candidate for the "Ascended
Masters." This will become more significant as you read on.
Saint Germanus of Cupua’s death is recorded as 545 AD. His festival day is October . There is no record of his writings. Other Germanus saints do have some surviving writings, which I haven't been able to locate.
The following is information regarding the Saint Germain and the Ascended Masters religion.
The Ascended Master Saint Germain is one of the Great Beings from the Spiritual Hierarchy who govern this system of worlds. He is the Cosmic Authority under the Seventh Ray, the Violet Ray, the purifying, cleansing Power that is raising the Earth into its permanent Golden Age. There are thousands of Ascended Masters from the Earth and other spheres who have joined in Saint Germain's Work. They are living, tangible Beings who raised their bodies into the Ascension, as did Jesus the Christ, who left an etheric record of the Ascension over the Hill of Bethany. They are wholly divine and beyond the realm of human mistakes. These Great Beings of Light and Love are the elder brothers and sisters of mankind. They give assistance without limit to all who will call to Them and make individual effort to serve the constructive way of Life.1
Let me point out some of the New Age buzz-words and phrases in case you missed them:
This states that Saint Germain is basically god, or a god. And notice that Jesus is implied to be doing the work of Saint Germain. The other buzz-words give some insight to the origin of the doctrine, but we’ll get to that in a minute.
This religion teaches that all humans are, or can be, divine:
Allow for all that is of the human to dissolve into a total surrender into your Holy Christ Self, and then into your God Presence.
There is an emphasis on the purple or violet flame that resides in the heart. Releasing or tending this flame will apparently release magical power (although it is not called magic.) The student is told that he can relieve his own burdens (of sin or whatever) and that people can solve all of the problems of mankind through this practice.
There is a warning about those who oppose this religion:
When an individual, or group of individuals, refuses to allow other lifestreams an opportunity to unfold, develop and assist in the Divine Plan, such channels are not expressing the generosity of the Godhead or the Great White Brotherhood, which is constantly endeavoring to secure the enrollment and cooperation of the Sons of Men.
This is a high-falutin’ way of saying "if they’re not for us, their agin’ us." More buzzwords:
There are several quotes that are attributed to Saint Germain, but are annotated:
through the Messenger…Beloved Saint Germain
This means that the message was given by telepathic or divine inspiration to various human "messengers." I then find it ironic that the web site issues this stern warning:
Please note:
The teachings of the Ascended Masters have nothing to do with involvement in the astral plane and fascination with the psychic world. Beloved Saint Germain has repeatedly advised against individuals becoming enthralled with the superstitions and glamour of spiritualism, channeling, and all activities.
Among those who are said to be earlier reincarnations of Saint Germain Christopher Columbus, Francis Bacon, Saint Joseph (Jesus’ earthly father), Samuel (of the Old Testament), Merlin (of King Arthur’s legends), the "High Priest on Atlantis more than 11,500 years ago," and the "Ruler of a Golden Age Civilization in the area of the Sahara Desert 70,000 years ago." They claim that he is also known as the "God of Freedom" and "Uncle Sam."
Saint Germain is said to have ascended from a mansion in Transylvania. At that location is the "Focus of Freedom for Europe." And "on the etheric plane, there has been established there a Sacred Temple of the Maltese Cross." The Saint Germain of this religion is said to have been the "Wonderman of Europe," an alchemist who supposedly succeeded in changing base metal into gold. (And if you believe that, I have some beachfront property in Arizona that I’m willing to sell really cheap.) Nonetheless, the connection to Saint Germain of Capua seems to be in the reference of the ascension, which is really not surprising. Bogus religions will frequently use accepted Christian personae and terminology to lend credence to their anti-Christian religion.
Now, what I have delayed revealing to you is that this doctrine is all based on the theosophical religion of Helena Blavatsky that was further refined by Alice Bailey. The "hierarchies of the masters" is a concept that Alice Bailey put forth in the mid 20th century. In this scheme, there are a number of "masters" who have ascended to the cosmos. These masters include Buddha, Jesus, and other world religious leaders, both known and unknown. Among them, Jesus is shown as a lesser character.
Most, if not all, of the writings attributed to Saint Germain pertinent to the ascended masters, were produced after 1930 by adherents of Theosophy. There are no bona fide earlier writings, except for other religious texts that have been misconstrued to suit the purposes of the Theosophical Society.
The moral of this story is: All that glitters is not gold, and all that is called Saint is not necessarily truth.
