Now, rather than spell out all that the New Age movement is here, may I refer you to my book, The Millennium Agenda, which is an overview of the New Age movement. I have been told my many people that the book is truly a great overview that is easy to read.
Another good book is Invasions of Other Gods by Dr. David Jeremiah. This also is a good overview of the New Age movement.
The conclusion that you need to take away from this article is this: There are two basic origins of Atlantean lore, one from Plato which is based in Greek gods and mythology, and the other is based on evolution.
If you believe in Atlantis based on Plato’s account, then you have to acknowledge as fact the Greek gods. The reason that I say this is because the whole existence of Plato’s Atlantis is hung on the mythology of the Greek gods, both its creation and destruction.
If you believe in Atlantis based on non-Platonic accounts, then you are acknowledging and giving credence to evolution and the New Age. The only reason that people want to find Atlantis today is to find the secret of the perfect society, advanced technology, and super human power—all of which are promised to be the properties of the next evolutionary age.
Evolution is a lie of Satan who wants people to believe that they can become gods through some practice of religion while ignoring the desperate need of salvation.
Was there ever an Atlantis? Maybe not, and maybe so. However, if an Atlantis is ever found, I am sure that nothing will be found to substantiate the claims of the New Age. Keep in mind that after the flood, the people built a ziggurat or pyramid in Babylon. God confused their languages and they were dispersed. So to me, the Bible adequately answers the question of why civilizations that are seemingly separate have similar architecture and lore.
Finally, let me reiterate that there is absolutely no physical evidence whatsoever to show or even logically infer that Atlantis existed. The story of Atlantis that Plato told was told as if it were true, however, was written in a dialogue style. That means that a character in the story was claiming the account to be true. Plato never claimed it to be true. In fact, Plato told many stories with fantastic scenarios to illustrate a point, but the account of Atlantis is the only one that is taken with such excitement as fact. Furthermore, every account of Atlantis since Plato is admittedly a concoction of legend, myth, conjecture, and in some cases, of séance. People like Blavatsky and Heindel speak of Atlantis with such confidence that their accounts appear to be based on fact, but they are charlatans that make their livings by pretending to be educated on matters for which there is no knowledge to be acquired.
But what does this all mean to the Christian? Consider this:
(Colossians 2:8 NIV) See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition [or folklore] and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
In other words, don’t get caught up with legends and folklore and whether they are real or not. Jesus is truth and that is what we should seek.
