I got tired of having to go hunt for a TV monitor or VCR when I needed it. People would borrow items with best of intentions but it was so easy to lose track of them.
So, I created AssetMan. Now I know where all my assets are. I know when I bought them and how much I paid. I can even track who has borrowed them.
