Psalms 20:7 - 8 (HCSB)
7 Some
take pride in a chariot, and others in horses,
but we take pride in the name of the LORD our God.
8 They collapse and
fall,
but we rise and stand firm.

Have you ever seen one of those Soviet parades where thousands of troops march in lock-step down the street, followed by tanks and artillery and even huge missiles? The crowds cheer and the leaders beam with pride as they review the emblems of their power. I remember seeing a particular scene where Hitler addressed some troops. I don’t recall the venue, but from his podium could be seen literally thousands of men. It was mind boggling to see.
In ancient times, the strength of an army was measured not only by the number of troops, but also the number of chariots and horses. Horses and chariots were the state-of-the-art military vehicles of the day and represented an advantage over foot soldiers.
So many nations have and do rely on the strength of their military as their security. But remember that the entire army of Egypt was swept away in a matter of seconds by the hand of God as He released the water of the Red Sea to close in on Pharaoh and the advancing army. In the 6-day war, Egypt was threatening Israel. Syria seemed perched for a similar advance from the north. In a single day, Israel disabled the Egyptian air-force. This was the major impetus for the capitulation of the Egyptians. And the Syrians reconsidered their aggression.
But on a personal level, do we consider our picket fences, locked doors, and monitored alarm systems to be our security? Are you relying on your education or job to provide security into your waning years?
The truth of the matter is that these could be gone in a day.
Where you place your trust and where you place your pride is vitally important. The things of this world, no matter how solid or formidable they seem, will some day crumble, but God will never cease to be as magnificent as He is today. Why not place your security in His hands.
