Psalms 10:3 - 4 (HCSB)
3 For
the wicked one boasts about his own cravings;
the one who is greedy curses and despises the LORD.
4 In all his
scheming,
the wicked arrogantly thinks:
“There is no accountability,
[since] God does not exist.”
===
Richard Dawkins, a renowned scientist, wrote a book: The God Delusion. In his book, he lays out all of evolution and thus concludes that “God” is merely a delusion since he (Dawkins) can explain all existence.
The problem is, he can provide an explanation so far as one presumes that all matter and energy always existed – and presuming there is any solid proof of evolution. May I remind you that evolution is still only a *theory* because there are gaps in the fossil evidence and anomalies that actually cause problems with the theory raising questions that evolution cannot answer.
It occurred to me the other day that there are two ways of thinking about God. If one considers God to be subject to all the physical laws and time, then God is reduced to a spectator of events. This is where people like Dawkins fall. He believes that all matter always existed and the “big bang” was merely a causative event to our universe as we know it. He has no explanation for what or who originated the matter and energy that *became* the big-bang – so, he concludes, it must have always existed.
Another way to look at God is that He is *outside* the physical laws and time. In this scenario, God is the creator of all matter and energy and thus capable of transcending everything we know. Matter and energy are *created* things. Dawkins’ problem is that he has limited his own thinking to a “box” that contains all the laws of space and time and he will not allow anything to exist outside of that “box.” Therefore, he denies the existence of a God because he (himself) is unable to fathom the concept.
How sad that one of our most renowned scientists is so limited in his thinking that he cannot think “outside of the box.” If you were to read his book or to see the interview with Ben Stein, you would understand Dawkins’ arrogance.
And so, the verses above are so appropriate. The arrogant claim there is no God and thus excuse themselves from any accountability to God.
The idea of who and what God is, is a concept that is truly difficult for us as humans to grasp. It is for this very reason that God gave us the scriptures and sent His son to live among us.
John 1:14 (HCSB)
14 The Word became
flesh
and took up residence among us.
We observed His glory,
the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
Jesus was the manifestation of God and He lived among us so that we could comprehend His greatness.
How foolish are they who say there is no God.
