Psalms 5:1 - 3 (HCSB) 1 Listen to my words, LORD;
consider my sighing. 2 Pay attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for I pray to You.

3 At daybreak, LORD, You hear my voice;
at daybreak I plead my case to You and watch expectantly.

The majority of people today, if asked, will say there is a god. But then when asked who or what that god is, will provide a variety of answers. When asked what their relationship to that god is, the responses vary even more. Most people think of God as some entity that is just “out there” sometimes interested, sometimes not. They think of God as perhaps good or not so good, or perhaps completely neutral.

But consider the words of David as he sung these words. In particular, he used the first-person possessive when talking about God. He said: “MY King and MY God.” To have a deep and intimate relationship with God allows us to call him “our” God. And what qualifies a deep and intimate relationship?

I know plenty of wives around me, but only one is *my* wife. This is the one that I choose to spend time with. She is the one with whom I share my deepest pain, sorrow, joy and dreams. I spend time with the one I claim as “my own.” Now certainly, I do not *own* her, yet due to the deepness and intimacy of our relationship, I can call her “mine” and she can call me “hers.”

Do you have the kind of relationship where you can honestly call Him “your God?” Would He call you “His own?” Are you spending time with God sharing your deepest pain, sorrows, joys and dreams?
