Psalms 3:1 - 3 (HCSB) 1 LORD, HOW MY FOES INCREASE!
There are many who attack me. 2 Many say about me,
“There is no help for him in God.”
Selah(pause)
3 But You, LORD, are a shield around me,
my glory, and the One who lifts up my head.

Our nation was founded upon Christian principles and upon Christian ideology. This is not to say that all of the founding fathers were necessarily “Godly” men, but rather that our nation was created upon the Judeo-Christian idea of God and Biblical morality.

However, the same freedoms that are written into the Constitution to guarantee our right to practice Christianity, also guarantees the right of any other religion to practice theirs. So, the nation that was once founded as “Christian” is now one of the most religiously diverse nations on earth (this is a fact).

What has happened is, as the diverse religions abound, they demand “tolerance” and equal time. So, if we allow Christians to pray in school before the football games, we must allow the Wiccans, Hindus, Buddhists and Moslems the same right and equal time. Because Christians claim to hold the truth about God (and we do), other religions cry foul and our voices are being silenced by the authorities and even the courts.

“How my foes increase! And many there are who attack me.” In this day, this plea does not necessarily refer to physical oppression, but to the growing hatred for Christians who will stand and declare the truth. Because so many people say that all roads lead to heaven, they claim that God will surely turn against us for our bigotry. Yet, God himself has promised to those who will claim Him as their own, that He will be as a shield around them.

Have you ever been depressed or sad about something? Have you found that you tend to look downwards in these times? We often cast our gaze downward at these times and it is from this that we get the term “downcast.” It is easy for us to become downcast when we are so ridiculed by the media and those around us, but we must remember God’s promise. Not only will He be our shield, but He will bring us peace and joy, even in the midst of these trials. He will lift our heads, our gaze, our countenance from sadness to joy.

Rest in the Lord and in His truth and He will be a shield around you and bring you joy in every circumstance.
