1 Samuel 2:1 - 3 (HCSB) 1Hannah prayed:
My heart rejoices in the LORD;
my horn is lifted up by the LORD.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
because I rejoice in Your salvation.
2 There is no one holy like the LORD.
There is no one besides You!
And there is no rock like our God.
3 Do not boast so proudly,
or let arrogant [words] come out of your mouth,
for the LORD is a God of knowledge,
and actions are weighed by Him.

1 Samuel 2:9 (HCSB) 9 He guards the steps of His faithful ones,
but the wicked are silenced in darkness,
for a man does not prevail by [his own] strength.

A woman named Hannah was childless. This was a disgrace for a married Jewish woman. Each year her husband would go to worship and sacrifice as was customary. As they were there, she fervently prayed for a son an vowed to give him to the Lord’s service.

She soon conceived and had a son, naming him Samuel (meaning “requested of God”). When the boy was weaned, she presented him to the high-preist, Eli, and then sang this song of praise to God. Hanna would visit the boy each year, but he lived and served with the high priest.

We are so very blessed. We often forget to remember our God. It would do us good to stop and remember His greatness – and ponder the fact that we lived so blessed only because of His grace.

Take a moment to read over the verses above. Better yet, read all of chapter 2 of 1 Samuel. Think about the words, let them hover in your mind and heart. Thank the Lord for His greatness and graciousness.
