Jeremiah 51:10 - 11 (HCSB)

¹⁰The LORD has brought about our vindication
     come, let’s tell in Zion
     what the LORD our God has accomplished.
¹¹Sharpen the arrows!
     Fill the quivers!
     The LORD has put it into the mind
     of the kings of the Medes
     because His plan is aimed at Babylon
     to destroy her,
     for it is the LORD’s vengeance,
     vengeance for His temple.

Have you ever wondered why some people who ignore the Lord seem to prosper? It seems frustrating to us who serve Him, to watch as those who scorn Him gain wealth and power. But let me encourage you to stand fast in your faith. History shows us a glimpse of what He is doing.

Babylon had risen to be a world power, in fact, the greatest world power of the time. Babylon conquered every city it went against. The Bible also tells us that the wealth of Babylon was unmatched before or after. God allowed Israel to be taken captive because of their sin, but Babylon burned and looted the temple in Jerusalem.

Furthermore, Babylon worshiped a host of false gods and for this; God would bring judgment against Babylon. In fact, God tells Babylon (through Jeremiah) that it will be the Medes that will overthrow them. History bears this out.

So, keep this in mind, when you see the world prosper as it worships false gods. The Lord may be using them for His purposes, just as He used Babylon and the Medes in turn.

His hand has not left you. You are where you are by His design. Be content and give Him glory in all circumstances.
