Isaiah 40:3 – 5 (NIV)
A voice of one calling
in the desert: “prepare
        the way for the Lord;

Make straight in the wilderness
        a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be raised up,
        every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
        the rugged places a plain.
And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
        and all mankind together will see it.

Certainly you have heard people talking about “rolling out the red carpet” in regards to welcoming someone of importance.  These verses are saying the same thing, but in a much grander way.  The “voice of one calling (in the desert)” is a prophecy regarding John The Baptist telling the people that their Messiah was near.

Yet, so great is our God and His son Jesus, that we should endeavor to go before Him and prepare the very ground before His steps so that He need not consider where His foot may fall.  Our response to the coming of Jesus should be that we are prepared to raise valleys and flatten mountains so that He has a level place to walk.  Of course, we know that our Lord does not need this done for Him, however, we should do so for the same reason a man places his jacket over a puddle so that his love can step across without soiling her feet.

Consider this: what celebrity would you most like to meet?  Now, if that celebrity was to come to your home, how would you greet them?

The way you greet Jesus should surpass that emotion of meeting your favorite celebrity.  What has that celebrity done for you?  What has Jesus done for you?

Our love and reverence for Jesus should fill us with such joy that we do everything in our power to make His path a straight highway.  You have the opportunity to welcome Jesus into your home every day.  Do you give Him the respect and adoration that He is due?
