Psalm 103:10-12 (NIV)
He does not treat us
as our sins deserve
Or repay us according to our
iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His love for those who
fear Him;
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our
transgressions from us.
Many people want to believe that we all deserve to go to heaven, but the opposite is true. We are sinful creatures and because of that, we deserve to be eternally separated from God. But God did not create us as some lab experiment or like an ant farm that can be tossed away when He got bored with it.
God loves us and because of that love, He forgives our sin. He overlooks our basic nature and sees us as children.
How is this possible? Because of the blood of Jesus Christ. God cannot stand evil, but when He looks at us, He sees us through the blood of Jesus and therefore sees us as justified. When Jesus took our sins for us, God then separated us from our sins “as far as east is from west” so that we are no longer associated with our sin nature.
What an awesome gift. We should act like we have received such a gift. If you received a million dollars, wouldn’t you want to tell your friends and family – even strangers!! Isn’t the gift of God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ a much greater gift than a million dollars? After all, God’s gift is eternal.
