Psalm 82: 3-4 (NIV)

Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless;
        Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
Rescue the weak and needy;
        Deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

What is charity?  Does it involve bringing a few cans of food to give away once a year?  Is it something the government is supposed to do?

The truth of the matter is, charity is everyone’s responsibility – everyday.  The fact that we are blessed beyond measure does not mean we have license to sit back and simply enjoy our blessings.  Do you need a second car?  Do you need that second, or third, or fourth TV?

Charity is the job of every Christian and should be as routine as eating a meal.  Don’t rely on someone else to carry out charity.  Make it YOUR responsibility.

Jesus said that even if you just give a drink of water in His name, then you have done it to Him.  When you see Jesus don’t you want him to remember all your acts of charity?  Be a faithful steward of God’s blessings.
