Psalm 69:6 (NIV)

May those who hope in you
        Not be disgraced because of me,
        O Lord, the Lord Almighty;
May those who seek you
        Not be put to shame because of me,
        O God of Israel.

King David of Israel sang these words in song some 3,000 years ago.  King David was regarded as the greatest king of Israel.  He was even called “a man after God’s own heart.”

As the leader of the nation, David realized that everyone was watching him, even his enemies.  Every action he took was evaluated and those seeking to discredit him looked for any opportunity to do so.  Of course, we know that David was not a perfect man, but we can still admire his desire expressed in this verse.

In your lives, do you seek not only to honor God, but to prevent disgrace to other believers?  Do you realize that even though you may not hold a lofty position politically, your friends and enemies watch your moves to see how you will carry out your day?  When we fail, we not only dishonor God, but we disgrace and shame other believers.  Our failings fall on all believers.  The world is eager to look at one failing and then accuse all Christians of the same failure.  What an awesome responsibility.

But God does not leave you alone in that responsibility.  Like David, call on God for help and he will help you.  Remember, He is your help and strength.
