Genesis 2:20 - 24 (HCSB)

20The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal; but for the man no helper was found who was like him.  21So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place.  22Then the LORD God made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.  23And the man said:
    This one, at last, is bone of my bone,
    and flesh of my flesh;
    this one will be called woman,
    for she was taken from man.

24This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.

The California Supreme Court has ruled that the ban on same-sex marriages is unconstitutional, thus making California the second state to allow same-sex marriages. I find it ironic that people who pursue such an unconventional lifestyle as homosexuality, would desire such a conventional institution as Marriage.  There is no Biblical allowance for homosexuality, as we will see.

In these verses we have the familiar account of how woman was created out of man.  Again, this is a different view from Genesis 1 where God created all things male and female. But I believe this is a different view of the creation of woman to make a specific point.

Now it would be easy for someone reading this account to surmise that the creation of woman was an afterthought. That is, that after God created all things and presented all the animals to Adam and only then did God realize that man had no one suitable for a mate.  But this is not the case.  A skilled instructor does not always lead the student to the right answers, but sometimes to the right questions.

I believe that God presents the creation in this sequence to point out the importance and significance of woman.  No animal could be a suitable assistant to man, so God deliberately created a being so much like man that she was taken from his very bone. She was created specifically for man.  From his side to be equal to him, rather than from his head or foot to be above or below him.

There is an order and a purpose in the creation of male and female.  The order is so that they can join together emotionally, and physically, and the purpose so they can produce offspring.  Everything that God has created fits an order and purpose. And things that do not conform to that order and purpose are an abomination.

Those who want to legitimize homosexuality claim that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for their poor manners in welcoming the guests (angels) that came to warn Lot.  This is liberal hogwash.  Romans 1 is very clear that homosexuality is a sin.  Remember that Lot even presented his virgin daughters to the towns-men who wanted to rape his male guests, but the men of the town insisted on raping the male guests.

Romans 1:26 - 27 (HCSB)

26This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual intercourse for what is unnatural.  27The males in the same way also left natural sexual intercourse with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty for their perversion.

And those who recognize such behavior as acceptable are just as guilty.

Romans 1:32 (HCSB)

32Although they know full well God’s just sentence—that those who practice such things deserve to die—they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.

God created all things with an order and purpose.  When we recognize and revere that order and purpose, we honor God.
